Just the Ticket now qualified to MOT and service electric and hybrid cars
Looking for a garage to service or MOT your electric/hybrid car? Charge this way!
Just the Ticket is officially the first independent car garage in New Malden to be qualified to service electric and hybrid cars. We’re also the only independent garage to do so in just under a 5-mile radius.
Paul Onslow-Cole, co-founder of Just the Ticket, said: “The number of the electric cars on the roads has skyrocketed since they first hit the mainstream market. So we have diversified and expanded our services to recognise that. We are an independent garage that helps all kinds of customers with whatever vehicle need they have – and if that means adding electric and hybrid car maintenance as another string to our bow, we are more than happy to oblige.”
Electric and hybrid servicing and MOTs
Just like fuel-powered vehicles, electric cars still need to have a service and pass their MOT after three years. They might be packed with the latest cutting-edge technology, but they are actually a lot quicker to service.
That’s because electric-only motors are usually made up of no more than 20 components – compared to the thousands of moving parts petrol and diesel engines have.
As a result, electric-only motors have no oil, water pumps or cambelts to change (although this differs for hybrid cars). But there is still the case of a diagnostic check and a battery once over. Technicians will also check the cooling system, brakes and braking fluid in addition to the lights, windscreen, seatbelts and steering.
Electrifyingly good skills
This month, two of our employees, Ricardo and Paul, gained their Institute of the Motor Industry’s (IMI) Level 2 and 3 Award in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities and System Repair and Replacement.
The course saw the duo cover skills in:
Working safely on an electric and hybrid vehicle
Carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems
Since passing, we’ve invested in a number of pieces of equipment so our technicians can work safely on electric and hybrid cars. Including the likes of an insulated tool kit, rubber mat, rescue hook and a barrier that surrounds the electric/hybrid vehicle while the team are servicing it.
The pair are set to complete IMI’s Level 4 Award in Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components later this month.
The only way is electric
The updates to Just the Ticket’s garage comes just a few weeks after recent stats revealed that the number of electric cars, buses, vans and trucks on the world’s roads are set to increase from 11million vehicles to 145 million by the end of 2030.
The global report on electric vehicles, released by the International Energy Agency, showed that the global report on electric vehicles found that sales in the first quarter of 2021 were more than 2.5 times higher than in the same months last year.
And with the UK government taking a historical step to ending its contribution to climate change by announcing the end of the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, the switch to electric shows no sign of slowing down.
